Artist in the Schools Program . . . • Is funded by the California Arts Council's Artists in Schools grant program. • Is a 33-year old program. • Provides hands-on artist workshops to every K-6 public classroom county-wide. • Partners with the Plumas County Office of Education, teachers, and teaching artists. • Offers music, dance, and visual arts workshops aligned with state standards.

Plumas Arts and the Artist in the Schools Program
Plumas Arts is committed to Arts Education: to enhance & provide opportunities for artistic development & excellence for artists, potential artists and audiences of all ages. Arts Education, and access to it at a public school level, is a fundamental aspect of one of our organizational goals of making a quality arts education available to all students regardless of means. As part of that on-going effort, Plumas Arts provides hands-on artist workshops in every K-6 classroom county-wide through the California Arts Council's (CAC) Artist in the Schools Program. The grant is matched with funding from the Plumas County Office of Education (PCOE), and elementary school sites. The program also relies heavily on donations in between grants. Our Arts Education program is the result of a 35-year relationship between Plumas Arts and our schools and artists with the funding and support of the Plumas County Office of Education, the Plumas Unified School District, and the California Arts Council. Without our funding partners, we really couldn't do this important work,” says Kara Rockett-Arsenault, Plumas Arts Executive Director, “The PCOE, CAC, and supportive community members help make our vision of artists in the classrooms a reality.” Educators and program coordinators agree that, “Through this program, students are introduced to fine art techniques, and ways they can express themselves creatively. They learn that there are many ways to see and interpret the world. As they work, they learn to problem-solve and think critically. Arts education provides training that translates to many facets of modern life.” |
