PLUMAS ARTS (also known as the Plumas County Arts Commission) was established in 1981 as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, private public benefit corporation. Since its inception, Plumas Arts has been authorized by the Plumas County Board of Supervisors to serve as Plumas County’s arts planning and programming agency for the California Arts Council's (CAC) State-Local Partnership (SLP).
WE ARE MISSION BASED…
"Plumas Arts cultivates communities in which arts & culture flourish."
What We Do
Artist Support
Plumas Arts maintains a gallery, that displays art from over 60 member artists. Individual member shows or group shows highlight new art monthly. Plumas Arts also coordinates the art display at Patti's Thunder Café, a popular eating establishment in Quincy, which has also hosted Words & Music for over 30 years. The art display at Patti's rotates on a bi-monthly schedule. Board members and staff are also involved with highlighting gallery artists and other local artists through gallery interviews and the Plumas Creates project. Plumas Arts also offers technical, grant writing, and organizational support to local and emerging artists and artist groups. |
Fundraising Events & Activities
Throughout the year, Plumas Arts hosts a myriad of events and fundraisers. Monthly Words & Music, seasonal Paint Nights, and the Plumas-Sierra County Fair Art Barn bring community members together to enjoy art. Fundraisers such as the Wild & Scenic Film Festival (September), The Mountain Beer Harvest Festival (October), Taste of Plumas (April) and Almanor Art Show (June) generate essential organizational support as well as to provide residents and visitors with some of our area’s most attractive community events. |
Arts Education
For over 30 years, Plumas Arts has run Artist in the Schools, a program to bring working artists into Plumas County schools to teach art, in all the K-6 grade classrooms in Plumas County. Plumas Arts also coordinates Poetry Out Loud, a local, statewide, and national program to encourage students to learn about poetry through memorization and recitation. Through grant support, Plumas Arts also offers school assembly programs featuring diverse genres of art. |
